Shofars

A shofar is a Jewish instrument made from a ram’s or Kudu’s horn. It makes a trumpet-like sound and is traditionally blown in the synagogue on Rosh Hashanah. In order to incite the people to repent, the Shofar is blown to wake up the people’s souls and to open the gates of heaven. The most important symbolism of the shofar is to remind the Jewish people of the Akedah (binding of Isaac). Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of absolute faith in God, but God prevented him from slaughtering Isaac, showing him a ram whose horns were tangled in a bush. Abraham sacrificed the ram instead of his son, and the shofar blast is supposed to remind God that the people of Israel are descendants of Abraham and deserving of His forgiveness. A Shofar makes a special gift for a man, Bar Mitzva boy, Bat Mitzva girl, and for Rosh Hashanah.
