Honey Dishes
Honey Dish- During the feast of Rosh Hashanah it is customary to dip apple slices in honey in special honey dishes, shaped like an apple or a pomegranate. It symbolizes the hope of a sweet new year. Doing that, we make a request to God that we will be granted a sweet new year. During the Kiddush we also dip the Challa in honey and recite "Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth." Another meaningful symbol of the holiday of Rosh Hashana is the pomegranate. According to Jewish tradition, every pomegranate contains 613 seeds – representing the 613 Mitzvot (good deeds) in Judaism. We eat a pomegranate and recite: “Blessed are You, Lord our God and the God of our fathers, that we will be as filled with Mitzvot as the pomegranate.” A honey Dish can make a beautiful gift for the high holidays, for a wedding or for a new home.
